Norwegian Salmon - The finest in the world

It is just amazing to see how The Norwegian Seafood Council works together with the Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture industry to develop markets for Norwegian seafood. The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) aims to increase the value of Norwegian seafood resources. 

Norway – A SeaFood Nation

In Norway, the vast seas and oceans that surround their coastline are seven times the size of their land. The deep, cold, clear waters are stocked with fresh seafood today and always. It’s the perfect environment for the cold, haddock, salmon and prawns. Icy waters keep them in peak condition until they are fished and frozen on the very same day, locking in the delicious, mouth-watering taste for kitchen tables around the word.

From the Vikings to the fisherman today, Norway’s way of life has always been entwined with the sea. There is no doubt, they are extremely fortunate to live where they do, with such rich fish stocks right on their doorstep, and the people work extremely hard to ensure that their relationship with the sea continues to be a positive one.

Health Benefits

By eating Norwegian Salmon, you and they will benefit from fish packed with goodness:
  • Protein: Needed to build and maintain ever cell in the body. Protein consists of various amino acids. Those that the body cannot produce itself and which must be added through the diet.
  • Omega 3 fatty acid: Prevent and slow the development of cardiovascular diseases. These marine fatty acids are also key building blocks for the brain.
  • Vitamin A: Helps give you good eyesight and a strong immune defense system. It is also important to foetal development and reproductive ability.
  • Vitamin D: Contained in fatty fish appears to have a preventive effect on diabetes type 2 and MS. It also appears to have a preventive effect on certain types of cancer, such as breast cancer, colon cancer and rectal cancer.
  • Vitamin B12: Is important in enabling your body to form new cells. A deficiency of Vitamin B12 can result in anaemia and iodine is important for your normal metabolism. Recommended daily intake is between 0.8-2 micro grams and 100g of Norwegian salmon contains roughly 3.9 micro grams.
  • Selenium: is important for the body’s immune system and also to protect the body against environmental pollutants such as heavy metals.
  • Iodine: is important for the normal metabolism of cells.

Here is what I made with the Norwegian Salmon. 

Pan-fried Garlic Butter Smeared Salmon

  • 250g block of Norwegian Salmon
  • Salt, Pepper powder, Oregano, Garlic butter

Cooking Method:
  • Rub the salmon with mixture of salt, pepper powder and oregano. Allow it to rest for 15 mins.
  • Heat the garlic butter in a pan. Make sure you put the nob to minimum, before putting in the salmon to fry.
  • Pan fry the salmon (skin facing up) for 4 minutes approx. and then turn it to the skin side and allow another two minutes to cook.
  • Your pan-fried Garlic butter salmon is ready to be served. Squeeze a lemon if it suites your taste and add some chips, a combination made in heaven.
